In a landmark move for women’s soccer in Canada, Tides FC has secured its first-ever loan signing, bringing 19-year-old Milly Clegg from Racing Louisville FC to Halifax. This signing, ahead of the Northern Super League’s inaugural season this April, marks a pivotal moment for both the club and the newly established league, illustrating their commitment to elevating women’s soccer in Canada.
Clegg made her debut in 2023, following a year where she represented New Zealand at both the Paris Olympics and the U20 World Cup. After signing a three-year contract with Racing Louisville FC in January 2024, the forward’s impressive scoring abilities on the international stage, including a memorable goal against Japan in 2024 shows her impact and hunger for the game.
“Milly is a rising star in world soccer. Her pace, power, and skill will thrill our fans every time she gets on the ball,” said head coach Lewis Page.
Clegg’s impressive credentials extend beyond international competitions. The New Zealand native began her professional career in the national league, where she helped Auckland United win the country’s top domestic trophy in 2022. From there, she moved to Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand’s only representative in Australia’s A-League Women, before making the leap to Western Sydney Wanderers. Her move to Racing Louisville FC marked the next step in her promising career.
For Halifax, Clegg’s signing is more than just the addition of a talented player — it’s a statement of intent for Tides FC and the Northern Super League as a whole. With the league set to debut its highly anticipated season, the addition of a player of Clegg’s calibre sets a strong tone as she joins on loan until Dec. 31, 2025.
